Piano Suite No.1

$10.00

A Suite for the Piano in Four Movements

  1. Tranquil - With Excitement

  2. Fast and Agitated

  3. Pastoral

  4. With Energy

I composed this piece in the fall of 2012 during a difficult time in my life; I was suffering from a few debilitating medical problems and concurrently felt overwhelming nostalgia about a home I had made for myself and eventually lost in southwestern Virginia. I composed this suite programmatically, using my first road trip to Virginia Tech, the university that led me to the region I fell in love with, as a guide for the setting of the piece. The first movement corresponds to the roads surrounding my childhood home in Mason Neck, Virginia. The second movement, a stark contrast to the first, depicts the aggressive traffic and competitiveness rampant around the highways of Northern Virginia. The third movement reflects the pastoral setting along the stretches of I-66 and I-81, while the fourth depicts my excitement about my new home and it’s possibilities.
